Memorial Day is right around the corner, marking the unofficial start to summer. Through the first five months of 2014, advertisers have been reminding us to get our yards ready for the summer months and Memorial Day barbeques.
Data analyzed by MediaRadar for MPA – The Association of Magazine Media reveal increased advertising for garden supply brands January-May 2014 versus the same period in 2013. Ad pages in the category are up 21% to 100.1 total pages, as measured among 147 national consumer monthly magazines.
Several key garden supply subcategories drove the ad page growth, including plant food (+78.4%) and plant growing systems (+50.6%). Miracle-Gro was the most active advertiser in the category with 22 pages January-May, up from 12.33 during this period in 2013. Proven Winners and The Garden Patch were also top advertisers, with 15.9 pages and 12 pages, respectively.
